Alarmist ocean acidification study self-debunking: Mollusks obviously survived high CO2 250 million years ago, why not today?

We compared our results with the widespread deaths of species around 250 and 55 million years ago when CO2 concentrations were also elevated. Despite the relatively rough statements we were able to make with the assistance of sediment samples from the past, we discovered similar sensitivities in the same animal taxa”, explains Prof. Hans-Otto Pörtner. The spread of the corals and the size of the reefs slumped drastically 55 million years ago whilst fish exhibited a great adaptive capacity and were able to further extend their dominance.” The media release is below. ### Scientists analyze the extent of ocean acidification Bremerhaven, 22 August 2013. Ocean acidification could change the ecosystems of our seas even by the end of this century. Biologists at the Alfred Wegener Institute, Helmholtz Centre for Polar and Marine Research (AWI), have therefore assessed the extent of this ominous change for the first time. In a new study they compiled and analysed all available data on ...

That enviro urge to silence skeptics

Image
Skeptics love it when warmists open their mouths. We want them to talk more. Alas, they don’t feel the same way about skeptics. Below is a tweet today from Grist.org’s Dave Roberts — you know the Nuremberg-trials-for-skeptics guy who says the Earth’s surface will hit  180 degrees F by 2300  and that we’ll all die from “hotness.” http://junkscience.com/2013/08/21/that-enviro-urge-to-silence-skeptics/

‘Uncertain’ Science: Judith Curry’s Take On Climate Change

91.7  KOSU Talk   Radio   Central Oklahoma   reports: While the Obama administration presses forward with plans to deal with climate change, Congress remains steadfast against taking action. It’s not easy to find a scientist who will agree with that point of view. But Republicans have found an ally in a climate scientist by the name of Judith Curry. Curry actually entered the public eye in 2005, with a paper in Science magazine warning that hurricanes were likely to become more intense as a result of climate change. But in the years since then, she’s soured on the scientific consensus about climate change. Her mantra now is, “We just don’t know.” Read more…

Al Gore’s storm comment stirs Category 6 mini-flap

Image
Al Gore needs to be more careful when discussing climate change and hurricanes, one scientist said Thursday. Gretchen Goldman, an analyst in the Scientific Integrity Initiative at the Union of Concerned Scientists’ Center for Science and Democracy, largely praised Gore but took issue with some comments the former vice president made in an  interview  with The Washington Post’s Ezra Klein. in the interview, published Wednesday, Gore said that “the fingerprint of man-made global warming is all over” storms like hurricanes and other extreme weather events. “The extreme events are more extreme. The hurricane scale used to be 1-5 and now they’re adding a 6,” he said, according to  a transcript  of the interview. ( Also on POLITICO: Gore endorses Schatz in Hawaii ) But Goldman — along with the Post’s own  Capital Weather Gang blog  — noted that nobody’s planning to add a Category 6 to the  hurricane  scale . “There are no pl...

Warmists spread fear to Florida home sellers: ‘What I’m looking for is a climate-change denier with a lot of money’

By the time Hurricane Sandy veered toward the Northeast  coast of the United States last October 29, it had mauled several countries in the Caribbean and left dozens dead. Faced with the largest storm ever spawned over the Atlantic, New York and other cities ordered mandatory evacuations of low-lying areas. Not everyone complied. Those who chose to ride out Sandy got a preview of the future, in which a warmer world will lead to inexorably rising seas. Brandon d’Leo, a 43-year-old sculptor and surfer, lives on the Rockaway Peninsula, a narrow, densely populated, 11-mile-long sandy strip that juts from the western end of Long Island. Like many of his neighbors, d’Leo had remained at home through Hurricane Irene the year before. “When they told us the tidal surge from this storm would be worse, I wasn’t afraid,” he says. That would soon change. D’Leo rents a second-floor apartment in a three-story house across the street from the beach on the peninsula’s southern shore....

26 hurricanes made landfall during Grover Cleveland admin — 3 so far during Obama

Al Gore  and his traveling medicine show is back in town with his new, improved snake oil , guaranteed to grow hair, improve digestion, promote regularity and kill roaches, rats and bedbugs.  Al  and his wagon rumbled into town on the eve of “a major forthcoming report” from the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change, which is a panel of scientists affiliated with the  United Nations . Their report is expected to buck up the spirits of the tycoons of the snake-oil industry. A snake-oil salesman’s lot, like a policeman’s, is not a happy one. There’s always a skeptic or two (or three) standing at the back of the wagon, eager to scoff and jeer. The global-warming scam would have been right up Gilbert and Sullivan’s street. Would  Al  and the  U.N.  deceive us? No! Never! What! Never? Weeeell, hardly ever. The New York Times , a faithful shill for  Al ’s snake-oil elixir, following the wagon from town to town, got an advance copy of the...

Energy producers, consumers bear the cost of supporting wind, solar parasites

Image
The Australian Conservative Write. The green energy twins, wind and solar, are parasitic power producers. They cannot produce continuous predictable electricity without sucking backup from their hosts – real power plants using coal, gas, nuclear, hydro or geothermal energy. They start their freeloading life by attaching themselves to an electricity network built and paid for by their hosts. They seldom contribute to the capital or maintenance cost of the transmission network, and they force consumers to subsidise the feed-in price received for their unreliable output. From day one, the green energy parasites force their hosts to support them with electricity during the frequent periods when they produce no power. At times, in cold still weather, wind farms drain power from the network to keep the turbines from freezing. All green energy plants in a region tend to produce either peak power or zero power at the same times. This surging creates serious network instability and...
