Global Warming Warning Labels Proposed for Gas Pumps? Only in Loon Tune San Fancisco

gas use warning

You know the Surgeon General’s warning on the side of a pack of cigarettes? “Smoking causes Lung Cancer, Heart Disease, Emphysema, and May Complicate Pregnancy.” Well, there’s a group in California that’s proposing putting similar warning labels on gas pumps, reminding users that the burning of fossil fuels contributes to “climate change.” Maybe that will help wean people off putting gas in their vehicles. It’s worked so well in convincing people to stop using tobacco products.
The labels are needed because, “There’s no immediate signal to a consumer of gasoline to show their effects on climate,” Jamie Brooks told the San Francisco Chronicle. Brooks represents 350BayArea.org, the group behind the proposal.
Jack Lucero Fleck, who also represents 350 Bay Area, said he’s heard criticism that warning labels are ineffective and that the ills of climate change are already widely known. Fleck pointed out that a recent Yale University study found that only one in three people expect the effects of climate change hit them or their children, despite findings that major shifts will be seen over 40 years. He says the labels will function much as commercial advertising by “putting their message out in public.”
So, why stop at gas pumps? Even according to the EPA, transportation isn’t the number one source of greenhouse gases. At the top of their list is electricity production, which accounts for about 33% of all carbon emissions. In addition to putting these “warning signs” on gas pumps, they should also put warning signs on every electrical outlet and stove; every washer and dryer; every water heater and AC unit. Anytime people want to use these appliances, they should feel guilty, and that warning label will be there to remind them of how ashamed they should be of themselves.
The EPA lists “agriculture” as another source of carbon emissions. This warning label should be branded on every pound of ground beef, because every purchase only contributes to the Flatulent Bovine Industry [FBI!], which, as we all know, contributes to global warming.
Since humans are going to be the cause of the world’s destruction, this 350 Bay Area group should also encourage people to commit suicide. And they should lead by example.
