Cost of Green Energy Hitting Record Highs

Barack Obama has been waging a war against fossil fuel produced energy. He has vigorously worked to make the cost of coal mining and coal burning electrical generation more unaffordable for the mining and power companies. Obama has also worked to hinder American oil by blocking the drilling of more oil wells, blocking the Keystone XL pipeline and trying to export American oil while buying foreign oil.
On the other side of the energy coin, Obama has dumped billions of dollars into green energy. A large portion of those billions went to companies that have since either closed their doors or drastically reduced their staff because the cost of green energy is too expensive.
One example of the high cost of green energy is the electric and hybrid cars. They cost more to produce and to purchase. But just how green or environmentally friendly are they? The batteries in many electric and hybrid cars are full of corrosive materials which require invasive mining to obtain those materials. Then what about the disposal of the batteries when they die?
Another example of the cost of green energy can be found in what’s taking place in Great Britain. Don’t forget that Obama has used Great Britain as an example of several things he’s pushed including Obamacare.
The cost of generating green electricity in the UK has hit record highs. In the 2011-12 year, the cost of producing one MWh (Million Watt-hour) of green electricity was £54.26 ($93.10). One year later in the 2012-13 year, the cost producing of one MWh of green electricity had risen to £66.97 ($114.91), an increase of 19% in just one year. The figures are not available for the 2013-14 year yet, but all indications are that they have continued to increase.
How many of us could afford to pay an additional 19% each year for your home energy needs?
Dr John Constable, director of Renewable Energy Foundation, a UK charity that has long been critical of the costs of the renewables targets, said: ‘DECC is subsidising renewables to meet arbitrary and over-ambitious EU targets, so it was inevitable that we would move rapidly up the cost curve once the ‘cheaper' opportunities had either been fully developed like landfill gas or exceeded the limits of public acceptability like onshore wind.’”
“He added: ‘Subsidy costs are now spiralling out of control - the annual burn is about £3bn a year and rising fast. There still is a good case for experimenting with renewables, but building so much capacity when the whole sector is still fundamentally uneconomic is bound to end in tears.’”
Notice how they are having to meet ‘arbitrary and over-ambitious EU targets.’ Between Obama and the over restrictive EPA, we could soon find ourselves facing similar targets here in the US. When that happens, be prepared to pay a lot more for your electric bill. If you don’t think it will happen here, then just recall back in2008 when Obama stated:
“So if somebody wants to build a coal-powered plant, they can; it’s just that it will bankrupt them, because they’re going to be charged a huge sum for all that greenhouse gas that’s being emitted. Under my plan of a cap-and-trade system, electricity rates would necessarily skyrocket. Even regardless of what I say about whether coal is good or bad. Because I’m capping greenhouse gases, coal power plants, you know, natural gas, you name it — whatever the plants were, whatever the industry was, they would have to, uh, retrofit their operations. That will cost money. They will pass that money on to consumers.”
In that speech, Obama was only talking about the cost of electricity produced from fossil fuels. That’s not even considering the ridiculously high costs of producing green electricity. When you add the two factors together the outlook for us consumers is not good at all. All I can say is that if Obama continues to get his way, you better get used to a warmer house in the summer and colder house in the winter and learn to turn off every light you can and live in the dark.
